Welcome to Islington

Dear applicant

Thank you for your interest in the role of Director of Youth and Community Services at Islington.

If you are passionate about fairness and interested in delivering change you couldn’t choose a better time to join us!

Islington is a borough of contrasts. It is a thriving area at the centre of a world city, with more than enough jobs to employ every person of working age. Yet is it also a very unequal place with high levels of poverty.

Many of our residents face very real and complex challenges with employment, housing and health and so have repeated contact with our services and those of our partners.

We are determined to bridge the gap between our richest and poorest residents so that everyone, whatever their background, has the same opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.

We want Islington to be the best place in the country for children and young people to grow up. Our innovative Fair Futures commission underlined our commitment to make this happen for all our children and young people.

We strongly believe that prevention and early intervention is the key to building stronger and more resilient communities and we are looking at how we can best focus our resources to deliver improved outcomes for children, young people and adults in line with these principles.

We are looking for someone who can collaborate effectively with colleagues across the council and with our partner organisations to tackle the social challenges our residents face.

If you are committed to equality and excellence and have the expertise and energy to drive us forward, you will be a great fit for us and we promise you the full support of our team in return.

We hope you will continue to read on, find out more and be inspired.
